KIA 타이거즈는 25일 “외국인투수 다니엘 멩덴과 총액 100만 달러 계약을 맺었다”고 발표했다. 2016년 오클랜드 애슬레틱스 유니폼을 입고 메이저리그로 데뷔한 우완투수 멩덴은 올 안성용달이사 시즌까지 통산 60경기에서 17승 20패 평균자책점 4.64를 기록했다. 와일드한 투구폼에서 나오는 시속 140㎞대 중후반의 직구와 안정적인 제구가 뛰어나다는 평가다. 이로써 올 시즌 6위를 기록했던 KIA는 내년도 외국인선수 진용을 강서구스카이차 모두 갖췄다. 기존 외국인투수 애런 브룩스와 외국인타자 프레스턴 터커와 재계약을 맺었고, 멩덴까지 데려오면서 일찌감치 구성을 마쳤다.
